Showed some cool stuff for @n.orkstein NLUS (Newberry Library Undergraduate seminar) yesterday related to papel Amate. Items ranged from 1500’s to 2024 📚💚💅🏽

Amate is a type of bark paper that has been manufactured in Mexico since the pre-invasion times.

Though still used for ceremonial purposes in some villages, it is now popular for colorful, stylized paintings of birds and flowers, as well as in collage, lampshades, and bookbinding.

Hosts at the museum in Paris were so sweet and accommodating, I will always be grateful to them. Paris folks know how to treat their guests. It was nice to be part of this important delegation celebrating 300 years since their ancestors visited Paris. I enjoyed hearing their talks, hanging and all the laughs 💚📚 😘 I am so grateful for a life and career (I worked my ass off for) that allows me to travel to places I never, ever thought I’d see ✈️

📚It was a long last couple weeks: hosting classes with colleague @n.orkstein focused on Immigration in Chicago where I showed items from @justseeds as well as many other gems in the collection; a three days symposium on the Philippines, which I also spoke at briefly, at the @newberrylibrary as well as the annual Forbidden Newberry event where I showed collection items related to the Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) and finally doing a fit check with my friend @juanmolinahernandez at the beginning of the week/video 📚

Something a little different today. Everyday for work I travel from my hood of Little Village (where I grew up) to one of the wealthiest areas in the city, the Gold Coast. Being born and raised in Chicago and knowing the histories of the land feels like I’m traveling and participating in a simulation each day.
